ENGWE Zip

Overall, the Engwe Zip is a good e-bike, and for the price, it's honestly hard to beat. That said, if you're planning to use it as a commuter bike that you'll be carrying onto trains regularly, there are a few caveats worth knowing about upfront.
The Good
Price: Excellent value for what you get — this has to be factored into any criticism below.
Battery: I really love the battery, and USB-C charging is a fantastic, modern touch.
Torque sensor: Makes the pedal assist feel natural and responsive.
The Caveats (for train commuters especially)
Weight: At 20 kg, the bike is heavy. Carrying it up and down stairs at the train station becomes a real chore over time.
Folding mechanism: Folding is more complicated than it looks — it takes a fair bit of practice before you can do it smoothly. By comparison, Brompton's folding mechanism is simpler and faster.
Handling when folded: Once folded, the bike isn't easy to carry or move around. When rolling it on its wheels, the magnet that's supposed to hold the two wheels together isn't strong enough, so pushing it along doesn't feel very secure or confidence-inspiring. That said, it does fold down small enough to be genuinely practical for commuting, once you get past that.
Seatpost: At 1.83 m tall, I found the stock seatpost too short — my knees stayed bent even at full extension. I ended up replacing it with a longer SunTour NCX suspension seatpost, which also let the saddle sit further back. That fixed the fit completely, but it's a bit of an extra investment/hassle that taller riders should know about going in.
Things to Watch Out For
Front brake cable: I had an issue where the front brake cable got squeezed when unfolding the bike, which caused slight braking problems. Easily fixed by unclamping the cable, but worth checking after every fold.
Middle hinge: The middle hinge loosened up a bit after a while and needed retightening. Nothing major, but something to keep an eye on.
Verdict
A solid, affordable e-bike overall — you genuinely get a lot for the price. But this isn't a "set it and forget it" bike: between the fold, the hinge, and the brake cable, you need to stay a bit sharp and do some occasional maintenance. If you're taller, budget for a seatpost swap too. None of it is a dealbreaker, but going in with realistic expectations will save you some frustration

ENGWE Zip. Daar valt niet veel over te zeggen. Gewoon topkwaliteit! Geweldige prijs-kwaliteitverhouding. Ik zou hem zonder aarzeling opnieuw kopen.
